Why does my dictation appear in English?

Understanding the two language settings

Weesper Neon Flow uses two different language settings:

  1. Interface language: this controls menus, buttons, and visible text in the app.
  2. Dictation language: this controls the language your voice should be transcribed in.

If the interface is set to French but the dictation language is still set to automatic detection, Weesper Neon Flow may sometimes interpret a short phrase as English. This can happen especially with very short phrases, proper names, technical vocabulary, or medical terms.

Check the dictation language

  1. Open Weesper Neon Flow.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for the Language or Dictation Language setting.
  4. Explicitly choose the language you speak, for example French or German.
  5. Close and reopen the app if the change does not seem to apply.

Avoid automatic detection if you always use the same language day to day.

If the issue mainly happens with short phrases

Short phrases give the transcription engine less context. For example, a phrase of just a few words may be interpreted as English if it sounds similar to English.

To improve the result:

Try another quality setting or model

If the dictation language is correct but the result still appears in English, try changing the transcription settings:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Look for Quality, Recognition Profile, or Model settings.
  3. Try a different quality level.
  4. If multiple models are available, test one that is better suited to your language or a more standard profile.
  5. Test with a simple 10 to 15 second sentence.

A faster model may sometimes lack context or precision for some languages. A larger model may be more accurate, but slower. The right choice depends on your computer and your workflow.

Quit and reopen the app

After changing the language, quality, or model, fully quit Weesper Neon Flow and reopen the app.

On Windows, also check that the icon is no longer visible in the notification area before reopening. On macOS, use Quit instead of simply closing the window.

If you use Weesper Neon Flow for medical, legal, or technical notes, some rare words may be recognized incorrectly. In that case:

  1. Go to SettingsDictionary.
  2. Add the words that come up often.
  3. Use Contextual Prompts to specify your field, for example “medical vocabulary in French”.

This helps Weesper Neon Flow stay in the right context.

FAQ

Why does the text sometimes come out in English when I am speaking French?

This usually happens when the dictation language is set to automatic detection or does not match the language you are speaking. The interface language and the dictation language are two separate settings.

Is the interface language enough to force the dictation language?

No. Setting the interface to French changes menus and buttons, but you should also check the language used for dictation.

What should I do if the language is already set correctly?

Try a longer sentence, change the quality setting or recognition model, then quit and reopen the app. If the issue continues, contact support with your operating system, selected language, and a short example of the result you received.
