The minimum configuration means Weesper can launch and transcribe with a lightweight recognition profile. The recommended configuration is what we suggest for a short delay between releasing the shortcut and seeing your text appear.
macOS — minimum
- OS: macOS 13 Ventura or later
- Processor: Apple Silicon, or an Intel Mac with AVX2 support (Intel Core 4th generation “Haswell” or later)
- RAM: 4 GB
- Disk space: 500 MB for the app and starter model; additional profiles need more space
- Permissions: Microphone, Accessibility, Input Monitoring
Intel Macs without AVX2 are not supported. Compatible older Intel Macs can run Weesper, but local transcription may take noticeably longer.
macOS — recommended for fast dictation
- Apple Silicon M1 or newer, with Metal acceleration
- 8 GB RAM or more for Standard and everyday dictation
- 16 GB RAM or more for Extended, Expert, or Professional profiles
- SSD storage
Windows — minimum
- OS: Windows 10 build 19041 or later, or Windows 11
- Processor: AVX2-capable x64 (Intel Haswell 2013 or later, AMD Excavator 2015 or later, or any Ryzen)
- RAM: 4 GB
- Disk space: 500 MB for the app and starter model; additional profiles need more space
- Runtime: WebView2 Runtime, installed automatically
- A GPU is not required
Windows — recommended for fast dictation
- Windows 11
- A modern multi-core x64 CPU, or a supported dedicated NVIDIA/AMD GPU with Vulkan and current drivers
- 8 GB RAM or more for Standard and everyday dictation
- 16 GB RAM or more for larger recognition profiles
- SSD storage
A ten-year-old laptop can meet the minimum AVX2 requirement and still feel slow: compatibility and transcription speed are different things. On older CPUs or integrated graphics, start with Compact or Minimal. If GPU acceleration makes a lightweight profile slower, try the CPU path instead.
